More than just feeling hot

Hyperhidrosis is a recognised medical condition in which the sweat glands produce far more sweat than the body needs for temperature regulation. It can affect the underarms, palms, feet, and face — and it's remarkably common, affecting around 3% of the UK population.

Whether it's avoiding certain fabrics, dreading handshakes, or planning outfits around sweat marks, the daily impact is real. The good news: a simple in-clinic procedure, performed by Dr Sabrina, can give you lasting confidence.

What Causes Excessive Sweating?

Hyperhidrosis can be primary (no underlying cause) or secondary (linked to a medical condition or medication). Either way, it responds well to treatment.

Primary Hyperhidrosis

The most common form. Overactive sweat glands with no underlying cause — often hereditary and worse under stress.

Hormonal Changes

Menopause, pregnancy, and thyroid imbalances can trigger excessive sweating — particularly at night and in the underarms.

Anxiety & Stress

The sympathetic nervous system can overstimulate sweat glands in anxious individuals, creating a self-reinforcing cycle.

Medications

Some antidepressants, antihypertensives, and diabetes medications list hyperhidrosis as a side effect.

How We Treat Hyperhidrosis

At Pelle Aesthetics, we use prescription-grade botulinum toxin — the same neuromodulator used in anti-wrinkle treatments — injected in tiny doses directly into the affected area to temporarily block the nerve signals that trigger sweating.

01

Botulinum Toxin for Hyperhidrosis

Tiny injections of prescription botulinum toxin are placed just below the skin's surface across the treatment zone. This blocks the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate your sweat glands — safely and effectively.

Results typically begin within 2–4 days, reach full effect by 2 weeks, and last 6–12 months depending on the individual. Most clients return once or twice a year.

Treatment Areas

We most commonly treat underarm (axillary) hyperhidrosis — the most socially impactful form. Dr Sabrina can also assess palmar (hands) and plantar (feet) hyperhidrosis, and gustatory (facial) sweating.

A thorough medical consultation is always carried out first to confirm diagnosis, rule out secondary causes, and ensure the treatment is appropriate for you.

Why Choose a Doctor-Led Clinic?

Hyperhidrosis treatment uses prescription medication — in the UK, this can only be legally administered following a proper medical assessment by a qualified prescriber. Dr Sabrina is a GMC-registered GP, and every treatment at Pelle Aesthetics follows full prescribing governance.

We will never administer this treatment without a thorough consultation, and we screen for any underlying medical causes that warrant onward referral.

Your Questions, Answered

Is it safe?

Yes. Botulinum toxin for hyperhidrosis is a well-established, licensed treatment with an excellent safety record. At Pelle Aesthetics, it is always administered by Dr Sabrina following a full medical assessment.

Does it hurt?

The needles used are very fine and the injections are superficial. Most clients describe a mild stinging sensation. We can apply a topical numbing cream beforehand if you prefer.

How long do results last?

Most clients experience a significant reduction in sweating for 6–12 months. Results vary by individual, area treated, and severity of hyperhidrosis.

Is there any downtime?

None. You can return to your normal day immediately. We advise avoiding vigorous exercise and heat exposure for 24 hours post-treatment.

Can anyone have this treatment?

A medical consultation is required before treatment. Certain conditions and medications may affect suitability. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are contraindications.

Will it stop me sweating entirely?

Treatment significantly reduces sweating — by up to 90% in the treated area — but does not eliminate it completely. Sweating in other areas is not affected.
