Dark circles and under-eye treatment Hertford — Pelle Aesthetics

Why the Under-Eye Area Needs Specialist Care

The skin beneath the eye is the thinnest on the face — just 0.5mm thick in places. It is highly vascular, responds poorly to trauma, and is technically demanding to treat safely. This is not an area for generalist injectors or high-street clinics.

At Pelle Aesthetics, all tear-trough treatments are performed by Dr Sabrina Valentino — a GMC-registered GP with advanced training in facial anatomy and periorbital aesthetics. Every treatment begins with a medical assessment to identify the precise cause of your dark circles, because not all dark circles are the same, and not all respond to the same approach.

Doctor-Led Precision

The tear-trough is one of the highest-risk injection zones on the face. Dr Sabrina's medical training and in-depth knowledge of facial vascular anatomy ensures treatment is both effective and safe.

Personalised Treatment Plans

Dark circles have multiple causes — volume loss, pigmentation, skin laxity, lifestyle. Your plan is tailored to what is actually driving your concern, not a one-size-fits-all filler appointment.

Natural, Rested Results

Our goal is never dramatic transformation — it is to restore the version of you that looks well-rested and vital. Results look natural because the approach is anatomically grounded.

What Causes Dark Circles?

Volume Loss & Hollow Tear-Troughs

As we age, fat pads beneath the eye descend and diminish, creating a shadowed groove between the lower eyelid and cheek. This structural hollow casts a dark shadow regardless of sleep or lifestyle — and is best addressed with tear-trough filler.

Pigmentation & Melanin Deposits

Some dark circles are caused by excess melanin in the skin itself — often genetic, and more common in darker skin tones. These appear as a brown or purple tinge and respond best to targeted skincare and energy-based treatments rather than filler alone.

Vascular Visibility

Thin under-eye skin allows the blue-purple colour of the underlying orbicularis oculi muscle and blood vessels to show through. LightEyes Ultra mesotherapy can strengthen the skin and improve microcirculation to reduce this vascular effect.

Skin Laxity & Fine Lines

Loose, crepey skin beneath the eye creates fine shadows from texture and movement. This responds well to skin-quality treatments — polynucleotides, Profhilo, or microneedling — rather than volume replacement.

Treatment Options at Pelle Aesthetics

Following your consultation, Dr Sabrina will recommend the combination of treatments most suited to your specific concern. Most patients benefit from a layered approach rather than a single modality.

Tear-Trough Filler (Juvéderm Volbella)

Hyaluronic acid filler placed precisely into the tear-trough groove restores lost volume and eliminates the hollow shadow. Dr Sabrina uses ultrafine cannulas to minimise bruising and maximise safety in this high-risk anatomical zone. Results are immediate and last 9–12 months.

LightEyes Ultra Mesotherapy

A cocktail of active ingredients — including DMAE, hyaluronic acid, and Rutin — injected superficially into the under-eye skin to improve microcirculation, reduce pigmentation, and strengthen the skin barrier. Ideal for vascular and pigmentation-type dark circles, and as a complement to tear-trough filler.

From £250 per session · Course of 3 recommended

Polynucleotides (PDRN)

Biostimulatory injections that stimulate collagen and elastin production in the thin periorbital skin. Polynucleotides improve skin quality, hydration, and fine lines over a series of sessions — making the skin more resilient and less translucent over time.

From £300 per session · Course of 3 recommended

Combination & Bespoke Protocol

For complex or multi-factorial dark circles, Dr Sabrina may recommend combining tear-trough filler with LightEyes Ultra, polynucleotides, or targeted Obagi skincare. A bespoke protocol ensures each contributing factor is addressed — not just the most obvious one.

Periorbital Treatment Requires Medical Expertise

The tear-trough sits adjacent to the eye socket, with complex vascular anatomy and significant risks if performed incorrectly. Vascular occlusion in this zone can cause visual complications — which is why Dr Sabrina takes a rigorous, anatomy-first approach to every treatment.

Dr Sabrina Valentino is a GMC-registered GP, MRCGP, and the founder of Pelle Aesthetics. She has advanced training in facial anatomy and performs all periorbital treatments herself — every consultation, every injection, every review.

Pelle Aesthetics is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This means your care is subject to independent inspection and regulation — a standard many aesthetic clinics, including those offering tear-trough treatment, do not meet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I suitable for tear-trough filler?

Not everyone is. Suitability depends on your skin type, degree of volume loss, and the underlying cause of your dark circles. Patients with very thin skin, significant festooning, or pigmentation-type circles may be better suited to alternative treatments. Dr Sabrina will assess this honestly at consultation.

How long does bruising last after tear-trough treatment?

Bruising is common in the periorbital area due to the density of small blood vessels. Most bruising resolves within 5–10 days. Using a cannula rather than a needle significantly reduces — though does not eliminate — the risk of bruising.

Can tear-trough filler look unnatural?

Yes — if overfilled or placed incorrectly. The Tyndall effect (a bluish discolouration from superficially placed filler) is a well-known complication. Dr Sabrina uses conservative volumes and appropriate product selection to avoid this. Less is always more in the tear-trough.

What is LightEyes Ultra and how is it different from filler?

LightEyes Ultra is a mesotherapy cocktail injected superficially into the skin itself — not into the tissue planes where filler is placed. It targets microcirculation, pigmentation, and skin quality rather than volume. The two treatments work at different levels and can be used together for multi-factorial dark circles.

How many sessions will I need?

Tear-trough filler typically requires one session, with a review at 2–4 weeks. LightEyes Ultra and polynucleotides work best as a course of 3 sessions, spaced 4 weeks apart. Your plan will be discussed fully at consultation before any commitment is made.

Can dark circles be completely eliminated?

In most cases, significant improvement is achievable — but "elimination" is rarely the right expectation. The goal is a well-rested, natural appearance. Patients with strong genetic pigmentation or very thin skin may see partial rather than complete improvement, and this will be explained honestly at consultation.
